Solstice Dreamscape

Solstice Dreamscape

11x14 inches gouache, acrylic, graphite on archival paper

I dream of the new earth when every day is the solstice, every day, we are positioned as close to the light as we could be. It is vibrant, warm, and lush. The mountains protect you and invite you home. We are all welcome here and we are eternally free.

Rainier in Spring

Rainier in Spring

6” x 9”

Fine Line

Fine Line

6” x 9”

gouache, acrylic, graphite on archival paper

In January, my husband and I road tripped all across America to move from Birmingham, AL to Seattle, WA. On our third travel day, we continued our trek over the Oregon state line as the day became night. Through massive dark mountains, our little red vehicle drove on a road that felt as small as a thread.

Pine Grove

Pine Grove

11” x 7”

Western Yellow Pines lined the edge of a wildflower meadow. Color from the sun highlighting the dark textured trees and shone through the spaces between the Yosemite woodlands.

Sentinel Dome

Sentinel Dome

8” x 8”

gouache, acrylic, graphite on birch wood panel

After a refreshing hike through the forest wilderness, we came to a clearing abuzz with people soaking in the view. I stepped near the edge and absorbed the mountains protecting the valley below. The Sentinels only allowed sunbeams to burst through their barrier and diffuse into the blue shadows in the brush below.

MO Arches

MO Arches

6” x 8”

gouache, acrylic ink, colored pencil on archival paper

In January, my husband and I road tripped all across the country to move from Birmingham, AL to Seattle, WA. Our first two travel days were filled with pastoral scenes as we moved through America’s farmlands. Sage greens, maze yellow, and southern sienna clay washed over the flatlands of 5 state till seeing arching hills in Missouri.

Half Dome Manifold

Half Dome Manifold

12” x 12”

gouache, acrylic, gold ink on birch wood panel

Gazing at Half Dome, I imagined the gradual formation of the icon of Yosemite. Ancient ice cleaving hard granite and rushing it away in frigid water. A manifold of actions taken by nature to form such a unique and awe-inspiring formation.

gouache, acrylic ink, aqua marker, graphite, chalk pastel on archival paper.

As the sun set in Yosemite Valley, soft peach light reflected on the granite mountains and cast the foliage below with pops of fiery yellow. I painted five different studies of this memory, letting the process guide each painting, and five wildly different compositions emerged.

Windy Bits

Windy Bits

8” x 8”

gouache, acrylic, and graphite on birch wood panel

The forest sat just beyond a lush valley meadow. The colors of the setting sun were highlighting the textured trees and shining through the spaces between. Dusk’s light danced as the wind blew bits of wildflowers deeper and deeper into the forest.

Winter Blues

Winter Blues

6” x 8”

gouache, acrylic ink, colored pencil, graphite on archival paper

This rare blue February sky felt like an excursion from the seemingly endless gray I’d come to know so well in such a short time since moving to Seattle. Such stark contrast made the bright days effervescent and served as a foreshadowing of the paradise of Spring that was to come.
